Developing Communication and Emotional Literacy in the Early Years
- NEXT DATE FOR COURSE APRIL 2012 - 9.30 am - 2.30 pm
- Brighton - venue tbc
Being able to communicate with others as part of a group as well as manage and recognise our emotions, are fundamental key life skills. Young children learn how to do this from the adults around them, as well as the children they spend their time playing and interacting with. Early Years settings have a key role in enabling children to understand, name and learn these skills and emotions.
Through practical tasks, small group work and reflection, the day will help you to:
- Learn a range of techniques to encourage positive communication skills between children
- Develop and extend your understanding of the core skills that children need for listening and talking together
- Understand the theory and research that is linked with children's development in this area - and relate what you have learned to the EYFS
- Practice practical ideas to use and adapt in your setting
- Identify good practice that already exists in your setting and consider how you can extend the resources and routines that you already use
- Support your own professional practice and devise an action plan that you can take back to your setting
