Lunch-time Supervisors Course

The Working With Others offers inspiring and practical strategies to develop children's key life skills of trust, self worth, confidence and social skills - all of which are practiced and acted out in the playground.

As a whole school approach, teachers, teaching support staff and lunchtime supervisors can collectively address specific areas of concern, such as working effectively together as a staff team, pupil behaviour, playtime, transition, health and well being.

The Lunch-time Supervisors Course encourages staff to reflect on their role and to identify and address the challenges associated with it and how they become and integral and valued member of the school team.

Course Structure

  • Evaluation of the impact of breaks and lunchtime on pupils and the current lunchtime systems and playground games
  • Consideration of how challenging playground behaviour can be addressed
  • Exploration of co-operative and collaborative playground games and practices
  • Creation of practical strategies for helping pupils to amicably and respectfully resolve their own problems in the playground

Course Duration
The course is spread over a series of three sessions, spaced a week or a fortnight apart, so that it supports the development of an agreed plan of action, with all member of the Lunch-time Supervisors team taking responsibility for implementing, monitoring and communicating to the whole school community.

Outcome
This solid teamwork and integration with other members of staff means that the care and development of the children happens across all of their time in school and any specific areas of concern, such as bullying, can be more effectively identified and tackled.
