INSET Day Training Opportunities
It's important to regularly nourish and refocus staff teams and INSET Days are an excellent opportunity for doing this - bringing everyone together to create a common focus, reflect together, share ideas, agree priorities and the way forward as a whole school. And of course extending their own individual practice also enhances the learning of their children
Why Choose a Working With Others INSET Day?
Working With Others INSET days are active, practical and fun - there's not much sitting around! All of the activities are underpinned by fundamental WWO principles and introduce easy to use strategies that can start making a difference to classrooms immediately.
Structured and Personalised Days
A structured first Working With Others INSET day is helpful, to make sure that all of the essentials WWO elements are covered and experienced, but more tailored days can then be created with you for future training days (see below):
- Introduction to key principles of WWO
- Exploring relationships, skills and vocabulary needed for working effectively in groups and as part of a team
- Understanding why trust is the key starting point for learning and working together – including practical ways to establish trust among children
- Communication skills – practical ideas for developing confidence
- Exploring problem solving
- How all of these skills can be used to help children learn better in groups
- The practicalities of planning for effective group work in the curriculum
- Time for planning and next steps forward
Follow on Working With Others INSET Days
All second or third Working With Others INSET day is an invaluable way of maintaining the benefits of the WWO principles for your staff and pupils. A great opportunity to:
- explore specific school targets and objectives (see below)
- get some new refreshing ideas and activities to try
- take the next steps for embedding the WWO approach across the curriculum
- train new staff
- bring the whole staff together in a fun, interactive and practical way at the beginning of a new term
- map progression for your school to ensure children are extending and developing their skills
Personalised to the Needs of your School
With advanced planning we can create a WWO INSET day which specifically helps you to address key issues. A typical structure could be:
- Identifying three key statements as a focus for the whole school in addressing and extending pupil skills
- Considering how group roles are used across all ages of pupils
- Exploring how WWO classroom support materials can further support effective groupwork within curriculum areas
- Working together as an effective staff team
- Understanding and enhancing emotional literacy: helping children name and manage their feelings
- Effective questioning for independent learners and peer and self assessment
- Extending pupil's creativity, problem solving and higher order thinking skills
- Supporting transition: practical strategies for staff and activities for children
