Headteachers sign up to a new teaching technique
The University of Brighton’s spin-off company Working With Others (WWO) has teamed up with Primary Matters to offer its innovative teaching technique to schools in Brighton & Hove.
Over 100 schools are already benefiting from the WWO approach across Sussex and headteachers from primary and secondary schools in Brighton & Hove have been quick to sign up to the new ‘Deep Learning Project’ launched by the two organisations.
WWO teaches children how to work together and provide the skills needed to achieve this, while Primary Matters creates an imaginative approach to curriculum design for teachers.
Giving teachers practical strategies to improve learning, the Deep Learning Project will run for 18 months and is focussed on raising standards in achievement and improving behaviour, motivation and social skills in pupils. These were recently highlighted as important areas for improvement by the Department for Children Schools and Families.
Dr Cathy Ota, Director of WWO, commented: “Our experience of working with schools across East and West Sussex has shown that helping children to develop group skills makes them feel safer and happier in the classroom and in social settings. Combining what we do with Primary Matters strong, creative and imaginative approach to curriculum design will make the Deep Learning Project a dynamic and creative opportunity. This will really put children at the centre of their own learning, engaging their enthusiasm and transforming their experience of school.”
