WWO for Outdoor Education

Outdoor education builds confidence in individual and higher levels of trust and commitment between team members. The perception of danger inherent in outdoor activities evokes emotions and teamwork not necessarily experienced in the traditional classroom.

Working With Others has been further developed and adapted for these external settings to support instructors, trainers and teachers working with small and larger groups of children and young people in a range of residential and outdoor environments.

Working With Others offers training and support in a range of formats

  • half and whole day training for your staff team
  • ongoing and follow up training, support and supervision
  • staff meetings
  • training for WWO materials

WWO Support Materials
High quality accessible materials that are easy to use. Visual aids that encourage group participation, reflection and develop and extend the awareness of skills and interactions.

Benefits to staff
Whether qualified teachers, individual instructors or staff teams WWO offers a common framework and a range of benefits including development as a practitioner and better facilitation of groups.

The Impact of WWO
Working With Others is a rigorous, evidence and research based approach for working with groups and ensuring effective participation and team work. It further strengthens and enhances team building, confidence and the positive peer
interactions / relationships offered through outdoor education

It motivates and inspires, using practical, proven strategies for challenging groups and children who find it difficult to work with others and peers. WWO extends knowledge and understanding of group dynamics and improves facilitation skills.
The approach makes the teaching of key life skills accessible and understandable.

The theoretical understanding and awareness also offers a consistency of
approach, a shared vocabulary, reflection and understanding that enables the
whole staff team to work even more effectively and productively together

WWO for your children and groups in outdoor education is different to the longer term WWO approach that we use in schools. Our outdoor education model has a short term impact, that elicits a quick and positive response from children.

This ensures that staff are better able to manage groups which carry less stress, which in turn helps them to get on better with each other, learn more and get more enjoyment from the activity.

Working With Others provides practical ideas that help team members to relax, engage and build relationships, rapport and trust with you as leader of their group.

We show you how to help them bond and connect, and quickly build trust with each other, which of course enables them to succeed at working together as a team. The WWO approach helps expands their emotional literacy - managing their own and responding to othersʼ.

Crucially WWO supports all children in feeling safe and included. It encourages and enables them to reflect and take responsibility for themselves and each
other, building confidence, awareness, vocabulary for learning, skills and teamwork
