For new schools - an opportunity for a school to gain a general introduction to the ideas and principles behind Working With Others before committing to full Membership. This is also an excellent way to develop a small expert team before rolling out WWO to the whole school.
For renewing schools - ideal for the induction of newly appointed staff in schools already following WWO principles.
Practical, relevant and grounded in extensive national and international research, the Working With Others Course provides a responsive, practitioner focused programme of training and support for primary teachers and teaching assistants.
Running from September to July the course offers support and training in understanding and using the Working With Others approach. Through the course practitioners will be able to
- Enhance positive, inclusive relationships among their pupils
- Improve attainment by enabling children to learn more effectively together
- Develop confidence in planning, composing and structuring group tasks
- Enable children to resolve conflict and increase their ability to problem solve
- Impact positively on key life skills, self esteem and inclusion
- Value the process of developing active and independent learners.
Course Outline:
Autumn Term (1½ days)* - Developing Trust
We begin by exploring the fundamental principles of the Working With Others approach. Practitioners will participate in activities which explore how to develop the concept of trust so that children can build positive relationships as a foundation for collaboration.
There will be opportunities for practitioners to share good practice and identify challenges as well as support in using practical strategies to promote trusting relationships.
Spring Term (1½ Days)* - Promoting Positive Communication
This day will build on the group’s trusting relationships established in the Autumn term. Practical activities and reflection will look at how developing children’s verbal and non verbal communication impacts on relationships and collaborative learning.
Summer Term (1½ Days)* - Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution
The Summer term’s training focuses on the National Curriculums key skill of working with others. Practitioners will gain experience of tasks and strategies to develop independent problem solving within the curriculum and on the playground.
Every session includes:

- Take away and use activity sheets
- Follow up notes
* The 1½ days of training are delivered as 1 full day in the first half of the term and ½ a day in the second half of the term.
