"Wisborough Green Primary School Sussex decided to become involved in WWO because we are successfully providing high levels of challenge in our lessons and focus on developing independence in our children, who are articulate and able to talk confidently about their learning and the teaching that they experience.
We wish for the children to become less reliant on the teacher or T.A. and to provide them with strategies to enable them to use the ideas and support of their peers, and we recognise the importance for them to develop greater trust in each other and develop an appropriate vocabulary to describe their needs.
There has been a change and improvement in the climate of classes as the children are using the WWO trust activities and are developing a language and vocabulary to describe their needs and behaviour, and those of their peers in a responsible and thoughtful way.
We have spent a year using the WWO approach to effective groupwork this has involved our teachers in paying much attention to the quality of pre and de-briefing questions being asked of the children and focusing on our children’s ability to answer these questions in an open and honest way. We know that the children are using a broader vocabulary when speaking about their role within a group task and are more able to reflect in greater depth on their contribution to any group activity. The children also trust their peers to ask and answer questions of each other thoughtfully.
Our excellent Ofsted contained statements which supported our own evaluations of WWO.

Pupils co-operate well when working in small groups.
..contributing well to pupil’s social development and to their good relationships with each other……they generally collaborate well in lessons, at lunch and playtimes.
A successful pilot programme for improving groupwork is adopted as a whole school approach and supports the curriculum and children’s learning well.

Behaviour in classes is generally good and pupils co-operate well when asked to work together in small groups. This good behaviour, children’s good attitudes to work and their enthusiasm makes a significant contribution to the good progress they make.
The integrated topic approach gives suitable opportunities for pupils to work independently and in small groups.
The development of group skills is positively impacting on pupils’ motivation.
