Burgess Hill Working With Others Initiative
Over 100 children from the 10 schools in the Burgess Hill Locality Network gathered on Wednesday 9th July 2008 at St Pauls Catholic College, Burgess Hill to celebrate the success of their recent Working With Others initiative.
Based on research from the University of Brighton, the Working With Others approach has helped staff in schools to work more effectively together and the pupils to take greater responsibility for their own learning, develop problem solving skills and improve their social skills, both in and out of school.
Mixed into random groups, the Year 2 –Year 8 pupils worked with teachers and Teaching Assistants on the fun challenge of creating Newspaper Couture to be Cat walked in a Fashion Show at the end of the morning. Year 12 Media Students captured the event as a Video Diary and in Still Photos which they will turn into a portable exhibition to be shown in each of the schools.
“This has been an excellent programme.” says Locality Project Manager, Sally Miller who organised the event. “I’m very impressed with the Working With Others initiative. The reaction of the children has been very positive and the improvement in their self–confidence is clear to see. We’re delighted that Burgess Hill Schools are helping to create excellent team-players for the future."
